Predicted Delhi Capitals playing XI vs MI, IPL 2026: Prithvi Shaw to return, Sameer Rizvi as impact player again?

Delhi Capitals survived a scare and clinched a 6-wicket win in their first game of Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), thanks to Sameer Rizvi’s heroics with the bat. A 70-run knock from the impact player save DC who found themselves reeling at 26/4 at one point of time in the run-chase against LSG. A strategic decision made by head coach Hemang Badani to send Tristan Stubbs ahead of David Miller turned out to be a masterstroke as he stitched together a 119-run partnership with Rizvi to take DC across the line comfortably.

While it is too early to tamper with the playing XI, DC might be tempted to make few changes to their line-up for their next game against a formidable MI. Their bowling unit was pretty much on point in the previous game, but it their batting that needs to be looked into. Let’s take a look at DC’s predicted playing XI for their clash against Mumbai Indians on Saturday.

Shaw to make comeback?

After Pathum Nissanka’s failure in his maiden IPL outing, DC could turn to Prithvi Shaw in the game against MI. The out-of-favour Mumbai batter last featured in the IPL back in 2024 where he played for the same team but had a lacklustre season. He was then released and subsequently went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, much to his relief, Shaw was handed a lifeline after he was bought back by DC in the IPL 2026 mini-auction.

Shaw is an experienced candidate while batting at the top of the order, having amassed 1892 runs in the 79 matches that he has played for DC in his IPL career. Shaw had a decent run in the IPL till 2022 following which his form dipped. He was then embroiled in multiple off-field controversies as well. The game against MI could be a golden chance for Prithvi to announce his return in style.

Sameer Rizvi impact player again

Rizvi played an innings of a lifetime in the game against LSG, emerging as the lone-warrior for DC as he took them across the line in what was a low-scoring run-chase. DC are expected to retain him as impact player for the game against MI following his composed 70-run knock.

No change to bowling line-up

With no word on Mitchell Starc’s availability yet, DC will be expected to stick with the pace trio of Mukesh, Ngidi and Natarajan. All three bowlers fared pretty well against LSG, with the Tamil Nadu pacer being the pick of the bowlers with his three-wicket haul. In the spin department, Kuldeep will spearhead the unit long with Axar and Vipraj Nigam.
