The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Prince Yadav as the injury replacement for Harshit Rana. The bowling all-rounder has sustained a hamstring injury during the Nottingham T20I on July 7. Rana bowled 4 overs and played 13 balls, the most for any Indian batter, but didn’t feature in the next two matches.
Harshit Rana out with another injury
After scans, it’s come out that Rana has suffered a Grade I hamstring injury and will report to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for his rehabilitation. Apart from him, Varun Chakaravarthy will also return to India and will the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
“Rana reported a sudden onset of discomfort in his right hamstring during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. Subsequent scans revealed a Grade 1 hamstring injury. He has been ruled out of the forthcoming ODI series against England and will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) for further assessment and management,” BCCI said.
One can’t forget that Rana was returning from an injury. Days before the T20 World Cup 2026, he suffered a knee injury that required surgery and ruled him out of the ICC tournament and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. After 5 matches, he’s forced out again.
Opportunity for Prince Yadav
Rana’s replacement, Prince, made his ODI debut last month against Afghanistan. He showed moments of brilliance but got outshone by Gurnoor Brar. Prince made his T20I debut against Ireland, picking up 3 wickets, but his exploits against England weren’t that great. He now gets the opportunity to make a case for 50-over cricket as well.
