Pakistan Super League CEO Salman Naseer has confirmed that two new teams will be added to the league for PSL 2026. The league currently operates with 6 teams in participation, with Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars winning three titles each so far. The addition of two new teams to PSL is a part of the PCB’s plan to expand the league and gain more traction as it competes with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Two new teams to enter PSL
As per GeoSuper, PSL CEO Naseer confirmed that the auction for the two new teams will be held in November. He stated that the bidding parties will be a given a pool of city names to select their teams from. At present, the teams in PSL include Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings.
“An auction will be held for two new PSL franchises. Bidding parties will be given a pool of city names from which they can select one team.,” the PSL CEO said.
The PSL CEO further went on to compare IPL to the PSL, claiming that the valuation for the latter was going down while it was otherwise for their own league. This comes in contrast with the numbers put forth by the IPL broadcaster after the latest season. Recently, the PCB ensured that PSL 2025 would overlap with the IPL 2025, in hopes of getting players to feature in their league instead of the cash-rich one. However, what happened was that the players who went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction were majorly a part of PSL while some players like Corbin Bosch opted to play in the IPL despite being picked up in the PSL draft, simply because of the popularity of the Indian league and the higher salary bracket.
