CHARUDATTA LATURKAR: The South Africa international will lead his side in the inaugural edition of the SA20

Quinton de Kock has been appointed captain of Durban Super Giants ahead of the inaugural season of the SA20.

The wicketkeeper-batter is vastly experienced in the format, scoring nearly 8,500 runs at a strike rate of 137.55 in 291 matches, including 77 T20I appearances for South Africa and stints in the IPL, CPL and The Hundred.

Behind the stumps, only MS Dhoni (91) has completed more dismissals than de Kock in T20Is, with the 29-year-old taking 71 catches and 16 stumpings across his international career.

As captain, he led South Africa in 11 T20Is, eight ODIs and four Test matches between 2018 and 2021. He has since retired from Test cricket in order to focus on his white-ball career.

Although the 2022 T20 World Cup did not go to plan, de Kock will head into the 2023 SA20 in good form after scoring 508 runs at a strike rate of nearly 150 for Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 IPL and 221 runs at a strike rate just under 130 in the 2022 CPL.

The 2023 SA20 will run from January 10 to February 11, with Durban Super Giants, coached by Lance Klusener, taking on Johannesburg Super Kings to open their campaign.
