Current Team India head coach Rahul Dravid is likely to take over as the mentor of IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the 2024 season. Dravid’s term as India head coach officially concluded following the Men in Blue’s ODI World Cup campaign, where they finished runners-up.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the BCCI is likely to have discussion with Dravid on his future as head coach, but should he sign an extension or not remains to be seen.

The report adds that Dravid was also in talks with Rajasthan Royals (RR, a franchise he represented and played for several times. However, it looks less likely that Dravid would join RR as LSG remains his possible next destination.

Another report in Sports Tak said that Dravid is already in talks with LSG regarding the possible move. Should he not continue as India head coach, Dravid might join LSG as their mentor, where he would replace Gautam Gambhir.

On 22 November, Gambhir confirmed that he was leaving LSG and returning to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as mentor.

“There’s is a meeting to be scheduled to discuss all this soon everyone will be called to discuss the future of coaching and the team as well,” a source was quoted as saying by Sports Tak.

LSG, who lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator this season, have already parted ways with head coach Andy Flower and named Justin Langer as the new coach. Should Dravid join LSG, it will be a massive boost to the team setup, so much so that youngsters can look upto him as an inspiration.

Meanwhile, VVS Laxman could be named the next India head coach should Dravid end up opting against the contract extension, according to India Today. Laxman is current the coach of the India T20I squad led by Suryakumar Yadav, who are facing Australia in a five-match series.
