Thanks to the late Shane Warne’s outstanding tactics as captain, Rajasthan Royals will forever be known as the inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), having beaten Chennai Super Kings in 2008.

That, however, would be the Royals’ only title in the 15 years that have passed since. The Jaipur-based franchise would reach the final just once since then — in the 2022 edition, where they would lose against the debuting Gujarat Titans to finish runners-up.

RR entered the auction with the second-lowest purse among the 10 franchises — an amount of Rs 14.5 crore. After releasing nine players, including senior overseas players Jason Holder and Joe Root, they were left with eight slots (three overseas).

Rajasthan Royals released players: Murugan Ashwin. KC Cariappa, KM Asif, Akash Vashisht, Abdul Basith, Kuldip Yadav, Joe Root, Jason Holder, Obed McCoy.
