Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Tim David has been fined 50% of his match fee and handed 2 demerit points, which has resulted in him getting a 1-match ban. During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final between RCB and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, David threw an ice bag in the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon.
Tim David handed 1-match IPL ban
The incident happened in the first innings, after Washington Sundar’s catch was disallowed by the third umpire, Jayaraman Madanagopal, on the last ball of the 10th over. Drinks came on the field while the umpire checked whether Jordan Cox had caught the ball cleanly. The decision went in GT’s favour, and in anger, David threw the ice bag in Menon’s direction.
“David was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match,” the IPL said.
David has accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee Javagal Srinath. For the unversed, this was the third Level 1 offence for him in IPL 2026. He was previously docked one demerit point on April 12 and two demerit points on May 10, both against the Mumbai Indians. As a result, David has accumulated 5 demerit points and will be suspended for his first match in the IPL 2027 season.
In the first incident, David was punished for disobeying an umpire’s instruction. In the second incident, an obscene gesture after the game earned him a 30% fine on his match fee.
