Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was in the hunt for Mitchell Starc at IPL 2024 Auction. But star India wicketkeeper-batter failed to acquire the Aussie pacer. The speedster broke the compatriot Pat Cummins record as he went to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore.

Rishabh Pant raised the paddle consistently but failed to buy out the former RCB man.

Mitchell Starc is making his return to Indian Premier League (IPL) auction after years, having last played in 2015. He has taken 73 wickets in 58 T20Is. In his IPL career, Starc has 34 wickets to his name in 27 matches he played for RCB from 2014-15.

It was Rishabh Pant for DC who started the bidding war for Starc. Mumbai Indians joined later but it was Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Gujarat Titans (GT) who made Mitchell Starc the most expensive IPL player ever.

Rishabh Pant ventures into uncharted territory at IPL 2024 Auction

In a historic move, Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has embarked on an unprecedented journey at the IPL 2024 auction. As the first active player to sit at the auction table alongside Delhi Capitals bosses, Pant shares his excitement about this unique opportunity.

Reflecting on his childhood dreams, Pant expressed, “You know as a kid, I used to think like one day I might be able to sit on the table somehow to help a team or something like that. I never thought that I will make it happen, but somehow things are in place, and I am able to do it. And lucky to be able to do it.”

Amidst the nerves and excitement, Pant is prepared for the bidding process and hopes to secure the best players for Delhi Capitals. Recalling his first auction experience, where he was roped in by Delhi for INR 1.90 crore, Pant acknowledged the profound impact it had on his career, expressing gratitude for being part of the Delhi Capitals family.

Recognizing his nervousness, Pant views it as an opportunity for personal growth, stating, “Nervousness is one thing which I have to work on. Whenever you do something new or exciting, the nervousness is always there, but like I want to grow as an individual and learn whatever I can from it.”

As Pant braces for the auction table, cricket fans eagerly anticipate his on-field return, marking a remarkable journey of resilience and determination. Pant, who faced a life-threatening accident nearly a year ago, survived a car crash on the Delhi-Roorkee highway. His survival, coupled with a burning desire for success, propels him into the heart of the IPL 2024 auction, ready to script new chapters in his cricketing journey.
