Riyan Parag, the Indian batting all-rounder and captain of Rajasthan Royals, has opened up about his childhood passion for football and his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United.

The campaign positioned Parag as an ardent Manchester United supporter, allowing him to discuss the football heroes who inspired him during his formative years. His connection to the club and its legendary players has remained a defining part of his personal interests outside cricket.

"When it comes to football, Manchester United is the team for me. I grew up watching them and admiring their players. I loved the red jersey, and I really admired Cristiano Ronaldo during his time there. So, that explains my choice," Parag said on JioStar.

Parag elaborated further on his admiration for Ronaldo, emphasising the Portuguese player's exceptional career trajectory and impact on professional football. The Rajasthan Royals captain explained that his respect for Ronaldo extends far beyond the player's time at Manchester United, encompassing his entire journey in the sport.

"I've always admired one player above all others, Cristiano Ronaldo. The way he came from Sporting CP as a young kid, and then what he did in the Premier League and how he elevated it. I don't think any other player comes close," Parag added.

Ronaldo's career has spanned more than two decades, during which he established himself as one of football's greatest players. Most recently, Ronaldo represented Portugal at the FIFA World Cup 2026, where his nation reached the round of 16 before being eliminated in July.

Ronaldo reflects on his final year in professional football

In a recent interview with Vogue, Ronaldo reflected on the twilight of his playing career, indicating that this may be his final year in professional football. The 39-year-old expressed his desire to leave a lasting impact on the sport while also planning for life beyond the game.

"This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy. I have my future all mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard," Ronaldo said.

Ronaldo went on to discuss how he intends to fill his time after retiring from football, mentioning various interests and activities that will occupy his attention. He spoke about maintaining an active lifestyle and enjoying the fruits of his decades-long career in professional sport.

"Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one. And also have more fun, travel more; watch and play padel, which I really like; and continue to enjoy what I've earned -- what we've earned. Because after all it's been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice," Ronaldo added.
