Riyan Parag has undergone successful surgery. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain sustained a hamstring injury in the last stages of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season but persisted through after RR qualified for the playoffs. Subsequently, Parag was ruled out of India A’s upcoming tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. Ruturaj Gaikwad was announced as his replacement as vice-captain and middle-order batter.

However, it turns out that Parag‘s surgery isn’t related to his hamstring injury. In fact, he has undergone right-shoulder surgery. The batting all-rounder revealed that his right shoulder had been causing him issues for the last 2 years. However, the 24-year-old kept delaying the surgery. That is until now.
“Well, the shoulder finally won. For everyone who’s been asking, the surgery is done and went well. The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge. But I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Now comes a different challenge – recovery, rehab and patience. I’ll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side,” Parag wrote.
A week ago, Parag was spotted at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai alongside his mother. He had gone to consult with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, one of India’s leading orthopaedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists. Pardiwala had previously aided Rishabh Pant in his return to international cricket following his car accident.
It’s unclear how long Parag will need to recover from his shoulder surgery. The batting all-rounder didn’t provide any update on that front. However, one can assume it might be a lengthy process. Perhaps the start of the domestic season, the Duleep Trophy in late August, might be what he’s aiming for as a return date.
