Rohit Sharma clears fitness test before India vs Australia ODI series

Rohit Sharma has cleared the pre-season fitness test at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE). The Indian ODI captain had checked in yesterday and underwent the assessment today in Bengaluru.

India cricketers’ clear fitness tests

Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Jitesh Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur had also reached the CoE yesterday and passed their fitness tests as well. According to RevSportz, Prasidh had the highest score among all cricketers.

Unlike others, Rohit won’t play any competitive cricket anytime soon. Having retired from Test and T20I cricket, Rohit can’t play any form of cricket until late September. The next ODI series India will play will be in October against Australia, but Rohit has reportedly shown interest in playing for India A against Australia A on September 30 and October 3 and 5 in Kanpur.

Rohit hasn’t played any cricket since early June. On a break, he only started training three weeks ago. Since the ODI captain plays just one format and the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the only other tournament he participates in, remaining in shape for international cricket isn’t easy. But the 38-year-old seems as committed as ever.

When will Virat Kohli give fitness test?

Since making London his home base, Virat Kohli only travels to India for matches. It was only recently that he started practicing in London after last playing in the IPL 2025 Final. No one knows when Kohli will travel to CoE for his fitness assessment.

Reports suggest that, like Rohit, Kohli is also interested in playing for India A. This would suggest that he’d report in Bengaluru in September. But one can’t be sure. Perhaps he feels there isn’t any need to play against Australia A. We know playing ODI cricket is like riding a bike for him; he can’t unlearn it.
