Sarfaraz Khan’s impressive debut innings came to an end after a mix up with batting partner Ravindra Jadeja in the middle. The young batter smashed a solid 62 off 66 balls and looked set for a century on debut before tragedy struck in the 82nd over, a little before Stumps on Day 1 of the third India vs England Test at Rajkot.

Jadeja, who was on 99, was on strike and called for a single after a flick to mid-on. However, the senior batter decided against the run after taking a couple of steps and went back into the crease. Non-striker Sarfaraz responded to his senior’s request but was left stranded outside the crease as Mark Wood effected a direct hit with only one wicket to target.

Sarfaraz was visibly disappointed at his dismissal and so was his captain Rohit Sharma who lost his cool in the dressing room and was seen taking off his cap and throwing it away in anger.

Jadeja completed his century on the very next ball and brought out the swinging sword celebration but even the all-rounder was not very enthusiastic in his manners as he kept it to the minimal. Probably he was still thinking about the part he played in Sarfaraz’s dismissal.

The 26-year-old who got his India debut cap from Anil Kumble on Thursday morning, however, did enough to show that he is ready for international cricket. Sarfaraz’s debut came after a long wait, but he slammed nine fours and one six in his innings where he scored at a strike rate of 93.94 and hardly gave any chance to the English bowlers.

India finished the day on 326/5 with Jadeja still not out on 110. Rohit was another Indian batter who had a good day in the office as he slammed 131 to break multiple records.
