After yet another exciting week in the ongoing Indian premier League (IPL) 2026, teams have buckled up before the tournament heads into its final stages. With only a few games left in the league stage, in match 47, the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Although both teams will be coming off losses in their respective previous fixtures, the home team is likely to be boasted by the return of their former skipper Rohit Sharma.

The 38-year-old, who featured in MI’s first four games, was then ruled out thereafter due to a hamstring injury. But ahead of their game against LSG, Rohit was seen hitting the nets while there was no scheduled practice session for the side. He was also involved in an incident which saw one of his shots hit ground staff.

In the video shared on X, however the incident is not captured, but the 38-year-old can be seen correcting the groundman’s position after the mishap.

Soon after this, the former skipper was kind enough to rush to provide first aid to the ground staff despite the team management telling him to continue to bat. This is not the first instance, as such moments have often happened in the cricketing history. Only recently a fan was struck in the face during the Punjab Kings’ game.

Injured ground staff shares Rohit Sharma’s kind gesture

Speaking after the incident, the ground staff, recognised by the name Siban Biswas told Mid-Day, “When Rohit Sharma sir told us to remove the off-side net, we did so and stood at the side. Just then, while I was wrapping the ripe and not paying attention to the players nearby, the ball hit me on my left knee. Rohit sir immediately came and inquired about the injury, but I told him to continue batting and not to bother. Yet, he returned with an ice pack and also sent someone to give me some medicine and a spray to put on my leg.

While the 27-year-old struggled with pain, he was joyous of the opportunity to shake hands with the veteran batter. “It was mixed feelings… though my knee was in pain, but at the same time, it feels good because I got to handshake with Rohit sir,” he further exclaimed.

While MI is yet to confirm Rohit Sharma’s return, they took to X to share glimpses of Rohit’s training drills. The 38-year-old has scored 137 runs across 4 innings at an average of 45.67 and strike rate of 165.06 and his return is set to be key seeing the fate of the franchise.

But recent reports have claimed that Rohit Sharma will himself decide his availability for tonight’s game, where MI will be eyeing to return to wining ways with only five league stage fixtures left for them.
