‘Send him to India A immediately’ – Vaibhav Suryavanshi likened to Sachin Tendulkar

The best since Sachin Tendulkar. This is what Virat Kohli has been described as. Although he’s had an incredible career of his own, no one can really match Tendulkar. Making your international debut at 16 and then continuing to play until 40 is a remarkable feat. Of course, in between, he broke or created nearly all of the biggest cricket records.

We’ve had teenage sensations since Tendulkar, but no one’s managed to maintain the success. Mohammad Ashraful and Mushtaq Mohammad are the youngest to score Test hundreds but there aren’t even in a regular cricket admirer’s mind. Heck, most won’t even know who they are.

Suryavanshi in Tendulkar’s league?

Tendulkar’s one of one. No one before or after has achieve what he did. He’s an outlier. That was until Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke onto the scene in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. At 14, the boy from Bihar scored the second-fastest an IPL century. Since then, Suryavanshi has also scored hundreds for India U19 in England and Australia.

Zubin Bharucha, Rajasthan Royals’ Director of High Performance, thinks Suryavanshi has already shown enough for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) needs to fast track him like Tendulkar was. Bharucha thinks he’s ready to play for India A alongside the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

“He should be blooded into the senior team immediately, like Sachin was all those years ago,” Bharucha told the Times of India. “They have to blood this guy immediately, boss, because he is in another zone only. At least send him on an India A tour. Send him to India A immediately. I’m telling you, this Australian attack that is here, bowling to India A guys, he would have got a double hundred,” he added.

No issues against Archer

Bharucha has seen Suryavanshi handle someone like Jofra Archer in the RR nets, who is one of the fastest and most skillful bowlers going around. For him, that’s enough evidence and the 14-year-old is cut from a different cloth.

“He smoked Jofra Archer in the nets. Jofra Archer, when he bowls in the nets, he’s a demon. He never bowls a warm-up ball when the batter is there. He absolutely charges in. And actually, Jofra Archer knocked off Steve Smith’s head in a practice session we had before the Ashes. Smith was struggling against him. From that day onwards, he never went inside the net when Jofra was bowling.

When he was bowling to Vaibhav, I was scared, and this boy hit one shot on the back foot, and it went out of the stadium. All the coaching staff, even Jofra, were stunned,” Bharucha concluded.
