Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the last three Test matches against England due to a back issue, it was reported on Friday. As per a report in The Indian Express, the Indian middle-order batter has complained of stiffness in back and pain in groin area. Instead of joining the Indian team at Rajkot for the third Test, Iyer is expected to travel to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for more tests.

“Iyer has informed the Indian team management and the medical staff that his back gets stiff after playing more than 30 balls and he feels pain in his groin while playing forward defence,” a source told The Indian Express. “Post surgery, he is facing this issue for the first time so he has been advised to rest for a few weeks. He will head to NCA later.”

The 29-year-old underwent back surgery last year and missed the IPL 2023, but is hoping to get fit before the T20 league this year.

As reported earlier, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are expected to be back in the squad after missing the second Test sue to injury issues and one of them could replace Iyer in the playing XI. Iyer’s absence could also allow Rajat Patidar to play one more match after making his Test debut at Visakhapatnam.

The third Test starts on 15 February at Rajkot and Team India is currently on break. They are expected to assemble in the city on 11 February.

The five-match Test series between India and England is currently levelled 1-1- after two matches.
