Shubman Gill is seen as the future of Team India. After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma eventually depart from the Indian cricket team, Gill is expected to lead the new generation of players. So far, he’s not there. But in the next couple of years, Gill is expected to become India’s all-format captain.

Gill has only led Team India in one series, in England. He’s yet to win or lose a series as captain since that England series resulted in a draw.

Shubman Gill captaincy record in IPL
Gill got his first taste of captaincy in 2024, when he was appointed the captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Unfortunately, the outcome was not favourable, as it was the worst season in GT’s history. Gill managed to win only 6 out of 13 games, losing seven. However, his second season was much better, as Gujarat qualified for the knockout stage but couldn’t go on to win the title.
