Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has achieved a unique feat, becoming the youngest player to score 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the age of 26 years and 216 days, the India ODI and Test captain overtakes Virat Kohli to become the youngest Indian to score 4K runs in the cash-rich league. Having made his IPL debut way back in 2018, the Punjab batter has taken 121 matches to breach the 4000-run mark in IPL.

Shubman Gill went past the 4000-run mark in the IPL 2026 game between LSG and GT at the Ekana Stadium on Sunday. At the time of publishing this copy, the GT skipper slammed his 28th half-century in the IPL, leading the charge in GT’s run-chase of 165 against Lucknow Super Giants. While Gill did overtake Kohli to become the youngest to score 4000 runs in the IPL, others include ex-CSK stalwart Suresh Raina and current CSK sensation Sanju Samson.

Since making his debut in 2018, Shubman has grown leaps and bounds with the bat. He has over 4000 runs to his name from 121 IPL matches, at a career average of 40.19, with 4 hundreds and 28 fifties to his name. He played for KKR from 2018 to 2021, during which he scored 1417 runs in four seasons.
He was then released and was bought by GT in their inaugural season in 2022. Since then, he has been a part of the franchise and has been one of their leading run-getters across the year. His best season came in 2023 when he amassed 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of 59.33. Gill finished as GT’s second-highest run getter in the previous edition of the tournament with 650 runs from 15 games.
