Ramakrishnan Sridhar, commonly known as R Sridhar, has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s fielding coach until the 2026 T20 World Cup. Sridhar is a BCCI Level 3 certified coach with 24 years of experience and will start working with Sri Lanka from December 11.
R Sridhar joins Sri Lanka as fielding coach
The 55-year-old served as India’s men’s cricket team fielding coach from 2014 to 2021. He was part of over 300 matches and 4 World Cups during the period. Sridhar has tried his hand in franchise cricket as well, serving as Punjab Kings’ spin bowling coach from 2014 to 2017 in the Indian Premier League.
He served as assistant coach of Afghanistan in 2024 for two series and earlier in the year travelled to Sri Lanka’s High-Performance Centre for a 10-day fielding program, which was attended by the senior men’s team, the women’s team, emerging teams, club teams, and the U-19 and A sides.
“Sri Lankan players have always stood for instinctive brilliance, resilience, and collective spirit. My role is not to impose a system but to nurture an environment where athleticism, awareness, and pride in the field can grow naturally,” Sridhar was quoted as per an SLC release.
“Fielding thrives when players feel connected to the ball, to each other, and to the moment. Sri Lanka’s traditional strengths – quick hands, sharp reflexes, and fearless intent – can be further enhanced by creating realistic, game-like learning environments,” he added.
Sridhar’s first assignment will be a 3-match T20I series against Pakistan, followed by England’s tour of Sri Lanka before the T20 World Cup commences.
