SWOT analysis of Rajasthan Royals after the IPL 2024 Auction

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have prepared a strong squad of 24 players. Sanju Samson led side have star players like Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, let us have a SWOT analysis for the side.

RR full squad: Sanju Samson (c), Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Donovan Ferreira, Kunal Rathore, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa, Avesh Khan, Rovman Powell, Shubham Dubey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Abid Mushtaq, Nandre Burger. 

Strengths

The team has a strong top order with Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and captain Sanju Samson. They also have Shimron Hetmyer in the middle who has the ability to accelerate the run rate in middle overs. Hetmyer had scored 300 runs in IPL 2023 with strike rate of 152.28. He also played major role in IPL 2022 when RR reached to finals. Buttler had given solid base to the team with 392 runs in previous season.

Rajasthan has always found strength in young talent. Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parang, and Shubham Dubey can emerge as star players for the team.

RR has experienced a spin bowling attack in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Adam Zampa. Chahal had picked 21 wickets in 14 games in last IPL.

Weaknesses

Rajasthan can lack a little in the fast bowling front. They have Prasidh Krishna who did not feature in IPL 2023 and has a decent form. Navdeep Saini is also not at his peak while Trent Boult did not have a great IPL 2023. Boult had taken just 14 wickets in 10 matches.

The team could have missed pinch-hitting in end overs, but they have picked Rovman Powell considering their weakness.

Opportunities

RR will have the opportunity to go forward with a strong line-up and try to win the trophy. Young players like Shubham Dubey will try to explore the most with his first IPL stint.

Threats

If RR’s new buys Rovman and Nandre Burger do not perform well in the tournament. They will be in a different situation Apart from Jos Buttle and Shimron Hetmyer, no other foreign player had stood up in the previous season.
