Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Suresh Raina praised the MS Dhoni-led side after they booked their spot in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs. The four-time champions qualified for the playoff after defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) in their final league stage clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, on Saturday, May 20.

Speaking about the match, CSK skipper Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (79 off 50) and Devon Conway (87 off 52) put on an excellent partnership as CSK posted a mammoth 223 in 20 overs. Meanwhile, CSK bowlers rattled DC's batting lineup in the second innings. Deepak Chahar claimed a three-wicket haul, Maheesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana took two each, and Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja got one each as CSK restricted DC to 146/9 to register a massive 77-run win.

After CSK sealed their playoff spot, Raina took to Twitter to praise his former IPL team.

"Clinching a thrilling victory today, @ChennaiIPL secures its spot in the playoffs! The Men in Yellow are unstoppable, showcasing their champion spirit! Bring on the playoffs, CSK!" Raina tweeted.

CSK pick the best players and see how they perform: Dhoni

Following the win, skipper Dhoni explained CSK's success mantra, stating that the team selects the finest players and grooms and works on their strengths. He also complimented the CSK management and support staff for bringing the side together.

The Chennai Super Kings have enjoyed an incredible season, reaching the IPL playoffs for a record 12th time. It's worth mentioning that their comeback is especially remarkable since they had a disappointing season in the 2022 IPL, finishing in the ninth position in the 10-team competition. Apart from the 2022 season, they had also failed to qualify for the playoffs in the 2020 season but bounced back and clinched their fourth IPL title the very next season.

CSK have 17 points from the 14 games, with eight wins and five losses. Their outstanding performances throughout the 16th edition of the season helped them seal second place in the IPL 2023 points table. They suffered defeats only against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this season.
