Tom Moody declines MI job to become LSG’s global director of cricket before IPL 2026

RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG) has appointed former Australia all-rounder and reputed coach Tom Moody as their global director of cricket. In this role, Moody will oversee Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Durban Super Giants in SA20, and Manchester Originals (could be renamed) in the Hundred.

Moody picks LSG over MI

Moody was the Director of Cricket at the Oval Invincibles during their third successive title in the Hundred this year. Earlier this year, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the owners of the Mumbai Indians (MI), acquired a 49% stake in the Invincibles, with Surrey holding the majority stake.

According to ESPNcricinfo, MI offered Moody to continue in the same role. But he decided to accept LSG’s offer, as they gave him a larger role. Right now, the terms of his contract are unknown.

It’s understood that Moody will assume the role that Zaheer Khan played for LSG in the IPL 2026 season. The former Indian fast bowler had replaced Gautam Gambhir as mentor, but things didn’t pan out.

Return to IPL after 3 years

Moody has an impressive resume in franchise cricket. Apart from his Invincibles accolades, he took Desert Vipers to the ILT20 final in 2023 and 2025. He was Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s head coach from 2013 to 2019, which saw them win their maiden IPL title in 2016. He returned to SRH in 2021 as their director of cricket but left after 2022.
