The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to name its new president on September 28 via the process of an election. While the board has already invited nominations, Indian Premier League chairman Arun Dhumal has claimed that there perhaps might be no polls as the next president could be chosen unanimously. The position of the BCCI president, among other roles, is lying vacant at the moment after Roger Binny stepped down after he turned 70 years old.

Next BCCI president already decided?

As per news agency IANS, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal claimed that the nominations for the post of BCCI president would start coming in soon and that he doesn’t think there will be an election. Dhumal claimed that the members will choose Binny’s successor unanimously. Dhumal further said that the members would sit and take a call, adding that there would be a clarity on who the next president would be once the list is out.

The nominations would start and you will get to know who is becoming. I don’t think there will be any elections. It would be done unanimously,” Dhumal said.

As per the BCCI’s constitution that is currently being followed, Binny had to step down as BCCI president earlier in July as he had turned 70 years old. Vice-president Rajiv Shukla is currently at the helm of affairs. While there is no clarity on who could be the frontrunner to be the next president, Sachin Tendulkar dismissed rumours of him being in the race to replace Binny.

The election of the office bearers will be held on September 28 during the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Polls will take place to elect a new president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, treasurer, one member of the Apex Council, and two members of the Governing Council.
