Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched their second consecutive win of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) on Tuesday as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 32 runs in Chennai. In what was a classic CSK approach, the five-time champions strangled the visitors with spin, with Noor Ahmad returning to doing what he is best at. KKR failed to chase down the 193-run target set by Ruturaj Gaikwad and co. as their winless run in the ongoing season continued.

Noor Ahmad chokes KKR

Afghanistan spinner and CSK’s spin spearhead Noor emerged as the Player of the Match for his outstanding spell of 3/21 against KKR. Anshul Kamboj drew the first blood as he sent Finn Allen packing for just 1 run in his very first over. Sunil Narine was the next to depart in the fifth over, thanks to Khaleel Ahmed. Thereby, KKR’s experiment to send the Caribbean star to open failed.

While Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27 of 19) and Ajinkya Rahane (28 of 22) managed to steady the innings, a collapse soon followed. From 79/3, KKR went to 90/6 in no time as Noor and Akeal Hossain choked the side with spin. Eventually, KKR could only manage to reach 160/7 at the end of 20 overs, falling short by 32 runs.

Mhatre’s intent shines bright

As Ruturaj Gaikwad extended his poor run of form with 6-ball 7, Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre took charge. Mhatre smashed 17-ball 38, while Sanju hit 48 off 32 as Chennai scored 72/2 in the powerplay.

That powerplay won CSK the game as scoring runs became difficult in the middle overs after Dewald Brevis perished for 41 off 29. Sunil Narine (1/21) put the squeeze. In the death overs, CSK could only manage 30/2 with Shivam Dube and Sarfaraz Khan struggling to hit the big shots. But as they ended up with 192/5, it was still a good score.
