Even though Yashasvi Jaiswal has played just nine Test matches in his career so far, legendary cricketer Brian Lara believes that the youngster has the capability of breaking his records in red-ball cricket. Jaiswal, who made his debut in the series against West Indies in 2023, has made 1028 runs so far in the longest format of the game and also has two double-centuries to his name.

Lauding him for his enormous success in such a brief time, Lara revealed that he shares a close bond with Jaiswal. The former cricketer mentioned that before Jaiswal made his international debut, the duo had a chat till 4 am during IPL 2023, in which they discussed a lot of cricket.

Even though he didn’t reveal their conversation, Lara mentioned that the youngster has enormous potential. He felt a connection since the first time they met and added that Jaiswal is very humble and has the desire to learn and he feels that his Test records are maybe in danger.

“If I feel my records are threatened, Jaiswal has got a very good chance to do so. He has got capabilities, couple of double hundreds already. He is that good. The only thing I can reveal about that (conversation) is I think he is an outstanding young cricketer. What I like about him is that he is very humble and willing to work. The first time I met him (last year), I immediately found myself attached to him,” Lara was quoted as saying by Rediff.

“After the game (SRH vs RR), I went to the hotel with a friend of mine from the Caribbean who knew Jos Buttler. It was midnight and Jaiswal found me. I promise you I left the hotel at 4 in the morning. He just wanted to hear more and more and more. That is one of his amazing traits. His ability to want to learn as much as possible. Our conversations are about trying to make him a better cricketer,” he added.

Notably, Jaiswal has scored 320 runs in 11 matches so far in IPL 2024. Keeping his destructive nature in mind, the youngster has been called up for the T20 World Cup but a place in the playing XI is not yet guaranteed.
