Haryana: School principal arrested over allegations of sexual harassments by 60 girls

Haryana’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has detained the principal of a government girl senior secondary school in Jind district on suspicion of sexually abusing sixty girl students.

As per reports, Uchana police filed a formal complaint against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code on October 31.

This came about after approximately fifteen schoolgirls wrote a five-page letter to the President, Prime Minister, and Chief Justice of India, accused the principal of seeking sexual favors girl students on the pretext of failing them in practical exams.

Police claim that the principal of the school had been out of control for the previous five days when he was apprehended by a SIT led by DSP Amit Bhatia, women’s SHO Mukesh Rani, Uchana Kalan SHO Balwan Singh, and sub-inspector Prem Kumari. On Sunday, the accused is scheduled to appear in court.

“We have been conducting raids at multiple spots to catch the accused in the state and outside the state as well,” DSP Amit Bhatia said in an interview with ANI. He will appear in court on Sunday after we apprehended him on Saturday.”

He claimed that at first, the SIT had looked into him and had arrested him based on reliable information.

A number of girls have addressed the education department, and a sizable portion of them have also recorded their statements in front of the police. Now, we would also review his prior service history. There would be a vigorous investigation into the matter,” he continued.

Mohammad Imran Raza, the deputy commissioner for Jind, said the ANI that a comprehensive investigation is also being conducted by the district administration.

Girls’ statements from grades six through twelve will be recorded. Following an investigation, appropriate action would be done. Many teams are looking into the situation,” he continued.
