The sister and eight-year-old nephew of former IPL player Paul Valthaty perished in a fire on Monday at a ground-plus-eight-story building in Kandivli (West). The afternoon fire injured three people.

Paul Valthaty played for Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. Glory Roberts, 43, and her son Joshua were found stranded on the smoke-filled floors of Veena Santoor, a building close to Pavan Dham Temple in Mahavir Nagar. It is unclear how they got there. The Roberts resided in flats 420 and 421 on the fourth floor.

At the time, Paul Valthaty was present on the property. The kitchen of flat 121 is where the fire started.

Joshua and Glory were transferred with the injured people to Shatabdi hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Around 12.15 p.m., a fire started in the kitchen of flat 121 on the F wing’s first floor, owned by Pinkesh Jain, and it quickly spread to the upper floors from the side facing the street. Around 4.30 pm, the fire department put it out.

The fourth story of the F wing was home to the Valhaty family.

Glory was visiting to see her ailing, bedridden parents, according to a family member. The entire family was inside the apartment when the fire started.

Paul Valthaty hurried downstairs with his wife, kids, and Glory’s older daughter. Glory and her son, as well as their two housekeepers, are thought to have become caught in the stairway while attempting to flee.

The two nurses, Rajeshwari Adhe (24) and Laxmi Bura (40), were hospitalized at Shatabdi Hospital after suffering severe burn injuries. According to a hospital doctor, Rajeshwari had 80–90% burns while Laxmi had 50–60% burns.
