Cricket fans should have been able to watch the upcoming generation of Test hopefuls in the India A vs Australia A unofficial Test series. It had all the makings of an exciting match, with Shreyas Iyer taking the lead again, Dhruv Jurel taking wickets, Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal at the top, and a number of players from India’s extended Test team playing. Once more, the BCCI has not made arrangements for live streaming or live telecasts, so fans are left to refresh scorecards.
BCCI’s financial muscle but fans’ disappointment
It’s not the first time. Domestic cricket fans were irritated when the Duleep Trophy was not televised earlier this season. The lack of coverage seems even more perplexing now that India A is playing Australia A, a series that directly influences national selection talks. The BCCI, however, live-streamed the Duleep Trophy final, where Rajat Patidar’s Central Zone beat South Zone in Bengaluru.
The BCCI is undoubtedly one of the richest boards in sports, let alone in cricket. Due to the major success of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the entire framework of the system, the projected revenue has reached a level that is projected to earn a whopping Rs 10,000 crore in the 2024-25 financial year alone.
Yet, BCCI has left a sour taste in fans’ mouths. Many fans have put forward their disappointments on social media. Some are even questioning the point of earning so much revenue when you can’t live stream a game when there are no other domestic games running elsewhere in the county!
