The mini-auction before the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) edition will reportedly mostly take place between December 13-15 later this year. Last year, teams revamped their squads after taking part in a mega-auction. While the dates for the IPL 2026 mini-auction hasn’t been confirmed by the IPL Governing Council yet, it is most likely to take place in the aforementioned window.
IPL 2026 auction to take place in December
As per Cricbuzz, sources in the franchises have revealed that they are engaged in discussions with the BCCI to finalize the date of the mini-auction. The report claims that there is no clarity on where the IPL 2026 auction would be held at the moment and that they won’t be surprised if an Indian city hosts the process just like how it was for the mega auction before IPL 2025. Further, the report claims that the deadline for teams to decide on their retentions will be November 15.
The report further claims that no team apart from Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are expected to make big releases. Both CSK and RR finished at the bottom of the points table in IPL 2025 after performing miserably in the season.
