Prashant Veer, the promising young all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh and one of the most talked-about uncapped talents ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026, has suffered an unfortunate shoulder injury during a Ranji Trophy match between his side and Jharkhand and faces a potential layoff for what could be his debut season with Chennai Super Kings
The incident occurred just before the end of the opening session on Day 1 of the sixth round match of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 in Lucknow, when Veer was fielding at mid-off and dived to his right to stop a well-timed shot by Jharkhand’s Shikhar Mohan. Though he managed to stop the hit, Veer landed awkwardly on his right shoulder and was seen holding the injured shoulder in visible discomfort.
As per ESPNcricinfo, Veer was immediately withdrawn from the field and taken to the hospital for scans after nothing positive could be drawn from the on-field treatment by the physio Upon his return, his right arm was seen in a sling, suggesting the injury is more serious than first feared. Early medical assessments indicate a Grade-2 shoulder tear, which could sideline him for at least three weeks, casting doubt on his readiness to play at the start of the IPL 2026.
Jharkhand has dominated Uttar Pradesh at the crease, reaching 312/3 as things stand on Day 2, with opener Sharandeep Singh scoring 139 runs with strong support from Shikhar Mohan (78) and Aryaman Sen (75).
Prashant Veer became costliest uncapped player in IPL history
For the unversed, the Uttar Pradesh cricketer became the joint most expensive uncapped player in IPL history when CSK secured him for a staggering price of INR 14.20 crore at the IPL mini-auction ahead of the upcoming season. The record is shared between him and Kartik Sharma, who was also bought by the five-time champions at the same price.
The timing of the setback is a blow not only for Uttar Pradesh in their ongoing domestic season but also for the Chennai-based franchise.
