The dark clouds have taken over the capital city and just like many league games of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), the knockout stages are in real threat of getting washed out. But the real question is what happens if the Qualifier 1 sees no result?

Central Delhi Kings (CSK) and East Delhi Riders (EDR), two most consistent teams this season, ended up in the top two. Now, they are pit against each other in Qualifier 1, with the winner straightaway qualifying for the DPL final on August 31.

Who will play DPL final in case of washout?

Well, the format of the Delhi Premier League is pretty similar to that of the Indian Premier League (IPL). You have a league stage where top four teams qualify. That is followed by the Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the finals. The top two teams that end up on the points table gets an advantage.

Now, Qualifier 1, scheduled between Central Delhi and East Delhi, was supposed to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday afternoon. However, continuous rain that gripped Delhi forced even the toss to be delayed. Now, what will happen if the match gets abandoned?

Well, the answer is that the team that finished higher on the points table will advance to the final. In this case, it is Jonty Sidhu’s Central Delhi, who finished as the league leaders with 15 points. Anuj Rawat’s East Delhi, meanwhile, ended up second with 14 points.

If the Qualifier 1 gets washed out, East Delhi won’t be eliminated but will face the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2, which is on August 30. They would be kicking themselves in case of this situation, given the defending champions were at the top of the table for most part of the league stage. However, Central Delhi rattled them in the last game, pushing them to second on the table.
