Cricket Ireland (CI) has announced the Ireland cricket team’s squad for the upcoming 2-match T20I series against India. After the T20 World Cup 2026, Paul Stirling stepped down as Ireland’s T20I captain. Considering the India tour will be the Green and Whites’s first assignment since the ICC event, Lorcan Tucker has been announced as the new T20I skipper.
Ireland’s new T20I captain
The 29-year-old made his international debut in 2016 and has played 159 matches for Ireland across formats. Apart from leading Leinster Lightning in domestic cricket, Tucker has captained the Green and Whites in two T20I matches, once in 2024 and once in 2026.
“India are an absolute powerhouse when it comes to T20 cricket. We are fortunate to be able to measure ourselves against them right at the start of our new cycle and there will be no tougher challenge for our group than what they will offer. Coming out of the IPL, there will undoubtedly be players who want to make an impact on the international scene. I hope that we can spoil a few of those parties they might have planned and show that we also are here to make an impact,” Tucker said on facing India.
3 maiden call-ups
Reuben Wilson, Matthew Hollard, and Jai Moondra have received their maiden call-ups in the shortest format. Wilson made his Test debut last month against New Zealand in a one-off Test in Belfast, while Hollard and Moondra are yet to play for Ireland in any format.
Injury woes
6 cricketers weren’t available for selection for the India vs Ireland T20I series due to injuries. Stirling, Ireland’s most-experienced batter, is out with a torn calf. Josh Little, who has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Gujarat Titans, has a stress fracture. Mark Adair has torn his rectus muscle. Curtis Campher has sustained a hand fracture. Barry McCarthy has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Lastly, Jordan Neill has a shoulder and foot injury.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already announced India’s squad for the two T20Is scheduled for June 26 and 28 in Belfast.
